Single? Georgia’s not a bad place to be, apparently

Whether you have a significant other or not, your relationship with yourself is the most important.

Ah, single on Valentine’s Day: no commitments, no responsibilities and grocery aisles of soon-to-be discounted chocolate galore.

If you find yourself without a beau or belle or what-have-you this Valentine's Day, consider yourself in good company. According to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub, being single in Georgia isn't so bad.

After all, the company ranked Atlanta the top city in America for singles this past November, thanks to its plethora of recreational activities.

And when it comes to simple dating economics, dating opportunities, romance and fun, the Peach State ranked among the top 15 states for singles in the country.

To determine 2019's best and worst states for singles, WalletHub analysts compared all 50 states across the aforementioned three dimensions (dating economics; dating opportunities; romance and fun) and further evaluated them using 28 other relevant metrics, such as share of single adults, gender balance of singles, average movie costs, restaurants per capita and online dating safety.

Of the 50 states, Florida was deemed the best of the best for singles, ranking third in the nation for both dating opportunities and romance and fun.

California, Texas, New York and Pennsylvania rounded out the top five.

Our beloved Georgia came in 14th. Here’s more on how the state fared:

  • Overall rank: 14
  • Dating opportunities: 14
  • Dating economics: 29
  • Romance and fun: 14

But of course, both WalletHub rankings assume single folks are on the prowl for a partner. For those looking to celebrate singledom (or drown some sorrows), metro Atlanta has plenty of nontraditional Valentine's Day parties for the partner-less this Thursday, Feb. 14.

You can also treat yourself to a couple of much-needed desserts and cocktails, because you deserve them.
