Three people were shot to death within minutes Wednesday night in two separate incidents about six miles apart in Atlanta.

In one incident, two people were shot to death at an apartment complex west of downtown, police said.

The man and the woman, whose names were not released, were shot in the 2900 block of Delmar Lane, Officer John Chafee with Atlanta police said.

A caller to 911 reported hearing gunshots around 6 p.m. Officers found the victims in a unit of the Delmar Villa apartments, off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just south of I-20 near I-285.

Detectives were working to determine if the shootings were a murder-suicide, but had not yet confirmed that, Major Keith Meadows told the AJC.

"It does appear there has been a history of domestic violence between the couple," Meadows said.

In a separate incident about six miles away, a 24-year-old man was shot in the back in the 2300 block of Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta, police said. The victim, whose name has not been released, died from his injuries.

Police believe robbery was the motive, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The shootings happened within about five minutes of each other, Meadows said.

It all happened on the same day that seven other people were shot -- two fatally -- in three separate incidents in metro Atlanta.
