Sexual assault reported on Decatur school property
The sexual assault of a girl is being investigated on the property of a Decatur school, police said Tuesday.
Decatur Deputy Chief Keith Lee said the alleged assault occurred Halloween night in a "field" behind Winnona Park Elementary, located east of Agnes Scott.
Other than location, "the incident is not in any way related to the school," said Lee, who would provide few details. "We are following leads, but right now we're not releasing information. It's under investigation."
Lee, in a press release, said the victim was a juvenile. She was transported to a local hospital by her parents and later released, said Lee. Police were alerted to the incident at about 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday is a teacher work day at Winonna Park Elementary, no students are at the school.
An AJC editor was at the scene Tuesday morning. He said police had put crime scene tape around an area of woods behind a school playground.
