A security officer at a downtown office building has been arrested for calling in a fake bomb threat, according to the FBI.

Robert Lamar Thompson, 50, was arrested Wednesday. He is accused of notifying police of two suspicious packages on two different floors of the building housing the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Thompson is employed by Allied Barton.

Hundreds of office workers were evacuated from the building on West Peachtree Street last Friday while police searched the building. The workers were allowed to return a few hours later.

Thompson made his first court appearance Thursday.
