Nearly a year and a half after a crash left DeKalb County’s police department with just one helicopter, the county is buying a second chopper.

The $1.6 million price tag for the 2005 Euro Copter from Jetstream Escrow is being covered by the county’s insurance on the helicopter that crashed in Covington during a recertification flight in September 2010. A police officer and civilian instructor were not injured in that accident.
