Reco Scott, 32, of Decatur, “was observed jumping from a cabin balcony” shortly before 5 a.m. Friday, Carnival Cruise Line spokeswoman Jennifer De La Cruz said in a statement.

At the time Scott went missing, the Carnival Liberty ship was about 10 miles northwest of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas.

The ship, which departed from Port Canaveral, Florida, went on to Nassau later Friday, before returning to Port Canaveral, its home port, De La Cruz said on Saturday.

Crews searched for more than 29 hours, covering 1,064 square miles.
