Search on for man who fired at officers

Aug 30, 2012

A southwest Atlanta neighborhood was temporarily blocked off as a SWAT team searched Thursday afternoon for a man accused of firing a gunshot at officers. A gun was found, but not the suspect, police said.

The incident began shortly after 10 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a man on a bicycle on Princess Avenue, according to Officer Kim Jones. The man, who has not been identified, did not cooperate with police and instead got off the bike and ran behind a home, Jones said.

“At that point, officers heard a gunshot,” Jones said in an emailed statement.

Officers took cover and called for additional officers, Jones said. A gun was located, but the suspect was not found, according to police. No arrests were made and no one was injured.

Several streets in the area were temporarily closed during the search for the suspect, according to police. Finch Elementary was also briefly on lockdown.

The area was re-opened shortly after 2 p.m., Jones said.
