Parents say they received a warning about an attempted kidnapping near an Atlanta elementary school but the principal never notified police.

Channel 2's Ryan Young confirmed administrators at Towns Elementary sent home a letter Friday about a man who drove up and offered candy in an attempt to get children closer to his car.

Young also learned from police sources that an officer was not called until Young started to question school officials on Monday.  The case is now under investigation.

Grandmother Phyllis Almond said she's furious at how the school handled the situation.

"We as a community need to know what happens in our community with the kids walking to and from school," Almond said.

Residents also told Young they want more information about the man and the car involved.

The note sent home to Towns Elementary parents comes following a district-wide warning from Atlanta Public Schools earlier in March.

In one case a 17-year-old told police a man tried to coax her into a van near Booker T. Washington High School. The following day a student reported a similar incident at Long Middle School.
