An approaching weather system could bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to parts of metro Atlanta by late Friday morning, but any rain should end well before Friday night’s high school football games, forecasters said.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said a large area of storms was moving southeastward through Tennessee, approaching the northwest corner of Georgia at 7 a.m. Friday.

She said that while the storms were expected to weaken as they move into Georgia, the far northern suburbs could see a little rain later in the morning and during the early afternoon.

Once the system moves through Friday afternoon, Friday evening and the weekend should be dry, with partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid-70s and lows in the mid-50s, Minton said.

The next chance of rain will be on Monday, when a 20 percent chance of showers is forecast.
