Transportation officials are urging motorists to avoid a heavily traveled stretch of Roswell Road in Buckhead that will be closed during the late morning and early afternoon hours for the next two weeks as crews relocate power poles.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, Roswell Road will be shut down in both directions through the heart of Buckhead from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, beginning today.

The work to move the utility poles is expected to take through July 30.

The affected area is roughly from the beginning of Roswell Road at Peachtree Road north to Piedmont Road.

One lane will be open in each direction to emergency vehicles and local business traffic only, according to DOT spokesman Paul Marshall.

Northbound traffic will be detoured to Peachtree to Piedmont and back onto Roswell Road. Southbound motorists will be detoured to Piedmont to Peachtree and back onto Roswell Road.

Marshall said drivers should “avoid this area if possible and use alternate routes.”
