Roswell proposes millage rate, sets public hearings

Roswell is tentatively proposing a Fiscal Year 2020 millage rate of 4.955 mills – unchanged from last year – and has scheduled two public hearings before the City Council.
The hearings start at 7 p.m. Monday, July 22, and Monday, Aug. 12, in the Council Chambers at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St. The council is expected to vote on the millage rate Aug. 12.
The council last year voted to lower the millage rate to 4.955 mills from 5.455 mills – the same since FY 2009 – to help offset higher property tax assessments in Fulton County, according to a city announcement.
Also last year, voters in Roswell and other Fulton cities approved a “floating” homestead exemption that sets a property owner’s assessment back to the lowest level of the previous three years, adjusted for inflation, and includes a cap limiting the annual increase to a tax bill, officials said. The measure takes effect this year.
Roswell residents will see more than $3.3 million in tax savings in 2019 as a result of homestead exemptions, officials said.
