The Roswell City Council has approved two community events for later this year: The National Night Out in August, and the Roswell Women’s Club “2018 Boo Y’all Scarecrow Event” in October.

The council passed a resolution accepting a 2018 Target Community Engagement Funds Grant of $1,000, to be matched with $5,000 from the city, to support Roswell’s National Night Out on Aug. 7.

National Night Out promotes community involvement in crime prevention, with activities such as “block parties, cookouts, parades, emergency personnel exhibits, youth events, safety demonstrations and seminars,” the resolution says. The Roswell Police Department will manage the event.

“Boo Y’all” is a competition for cash prizes among community groups, businesses and schools that sponsor scarecrows.

Scarecrows will be allowed in the public right-of-way from Sept. 28 to Nov. 1, the event resolution says. Each scarecrow must have a tag attached, no larger than 8.5 by 11 inches, stating “Created by (name of entrant)” and no other information.
