Roswell will celebrate the completion of the Phase III restoration of Old Mill Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the end of the month.
The public is invited to the free ceremony, set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, according to a city announcement. The latest phase of work saw the completion of an elevated boardwalk and connecting trails to the Old Mill ruins.
Goats were used this spring to clear kudzu that had overrun the mill ruins, and ADA-accessible trails were created and expanded to connect with existing trails to make the area safer and more accessible to visitors, officials said.
Taylor Smith, project supervisor and Roswell Recreation and Parks employee, said the restoration “tells the story about why (the mill) is important and the role it played in forming Roswell.” Beneath the boardwalk, for example, is the mill’s original turbine, used for cotton processing until 1975.
