Motorists around downtown McDonough will have to contend with a major road closing for several days.

City officials confirmed that Hwy. 20/81, also known near the square as Hampton Street, will be closed west of the square beginning April 1 for about 10 days, weather permitting. The road closing is related to ongoing construction of the one-way pairs through downtown McDonough. Detour signs will be placed along McDonough Parkway and Jonesboro Road to assist motorists, who are encouraged to consider alternate routes and avoid the area if at all possible.

One route that will not be available for detour traffic is Sloan Street, as portions of it will also be closed.
