Restaurant inspection: Three Dollar Cafe score drops

During a recent routine health inspection, Three Dollar Café on Roswell Road was observed with standing water on the kitchen floors and insects flying in the food prep area and around the dishwasher.

The Fulton County inspector also said the dishwasher and a cooler were not working correctly and needed servicing.

Three Dollar Café, 8595 Roswell Road, Atlanta, failed the inspection with a 68/U, dropping from previous scores of 90/A and 88/B.

One of the coolers was not maintaining potentially hazardous food at proper temperatures, according to the inspection report. The problem was limited to a specific cooler drawer that the inspector said needs to be repaired.

Also, the dishwasher was not dispensing sanitizing cleaner and also needed servicing. Staff was told to wash dishes by hand in the three-compartment sink until the machine was repaired.

In other code violations, raw meats were not separated from ready-to-eat foods, putting them at risk of contamination. Utensils were being stored in crevices between equipment.

Points were also taken off for two repeat code violations. An open employee drink container was in the food prep area, and the employee hand sink had no soap or paper towels.

The inspector also said the restaurant was operating without a current food service permit.

Three Dollar Café will be re-inspected.
