Restaurant inspection: Snellville eatery fails with repeat violations

A Snellville restaurant had multiple repeat health code violations during a recent inspection, and was told its food permit could be suspended if these continue.

Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant, 3550 Centerville Highway, failed the inspection with a 40/U. Previous scores were 96/A and 77/C.

Points were taken off because employee food and drinks were once again found in the prep area. And employees cooking food and those packing rice for to-go orders were still not wearing hair restraints, the Gwinnett County health inspector said.

Also, multiple wet wiping cloths were once again lying on the food prep table, instead of inside a sanitation bucket. And multiple dented cans of food were still on storage shelves. Some of the cans had dents on seams, the inspector said.

In other code violations, raw shrimp was thawing in standing water in the three-compartment sink. The shrimp was removed and placed inside the walk-in cooler to complete thawing.

Multiple containers and bags of uncovered foods were in the walk-in cooler and in the freezers. Noodles had been cooling in the walk-in cooler for an extended period of time, but were still not at a safe temperature. They were discarded.

A bottle of dish soap was stored in the meat prep sink. There was no thermometer in the facility to check food temperatures, the inspector said.

The facility also needed cleaning. The inspector noted excessive grease build-up hanging from surfaces such as the vent hood, vent filters and a sprinkler pipe near the hood.

Hong Kong restaurant will be re-inspected. [Editor's Note: Hong Kong restaurant passed the follow-up inspection with 82/B.]
