Some raw fish and shrimp inside a reach-in cooler on the food prep line were spoiled at Joy Wings & Deli on Campbellton Road in Atlanta. The Fulton County inspector said the seafood was slimy and had a very bad odor.
The inspector also found a buildup of red slime in the interior of the ice machine, and other violations of potential food contamination during the recent routine inspection.
Joy Wings & Deli, 4855 Campbellton Road, Atlanta, scored 41/U, dropping from previous scores of 93/A and 76/C.
Among other code violations, rice and raw chicken stored in the prep sink were both at unsafe temperatures. And the rice was uncovered and unprotected from contamination.
A large container of leftover rice was not marked with the date of preparation. Working containers of food that had been removed from their original containers were not identified.
The inspector said the facility and equipment needed cleaning. The walk-in cooler had a buildup of soiled material on the racks and dust on fan covers. Another cooler was soiled with food residue. Grease had accumulated under cooking equipment and walls throughout the establishment, the inspector said.
Points were also taken off because of a water leak at the dish-washing sink, garbage on the ground near the dumpster and a fly strip and roach glue trap present above the food prep table.
The inspector said managers in charge needed to be properly trained or retrained in food safety risk control.
Joy Wings & Deli will be re-inspected.
