Gasthaus Tirol, a German restaurant in Cumming, recently posted its second consecutive failing health score on a routine inspection.
The Forsyth County inspector said employees were eating and tasting food without washing hands before putting on gloves, and the dishes were not being properly cleaned.
Among the violations, an employee was eating cake in the kitchen and there were employee drinks on the prep table, according to the inspection report.
Points were also taken off because an employee touched ready-to-eat food with bare hands. The food was discarded.
Prepared potatoes were also discarded because of mold, according to the report.
Gasthaus Tirol, 310 Atlanta Road, Cumming, scored 44/U. The restaurant scored 55/U on a routine inspection in May, then scored 80/B on the follow-up inspection.
In other violations, dishes were being pre-washed in the vegetable sink. Also, they were not being cleaned properly. Old date marking stickers were not removed. And the inspector said the dishwasher had no measurable amount of sanitizing solution.
Dining tables were also not sanitized correctly, the inspector said. And the meat slicer had an accumulation of food debris.
Points were also taken off because bottles of chemicals were stored next to food and food contact surfaces. Some of the chemical bottles were not labeled. Single-use containers were being reused for other purposes instead of being thrown away.
The inspector said concrete floors throughout the kitchen were in disrepair and needed to be properly sealed.
Gasthaus Tirol will be re-inspected. [Editor's Note: Gasthaus Tirol passed the follow-up inspection with 77/C.]
