One of the coolers at Dog Days, a hot dog diner in Norcross, was again keeping temperatures too high and multiple food items had to be thrown away.

Corn dogs, raw sausages, chili, cheese, eggs and sour cream were all discarded because of unsafe temperatures. The air temperature in the cooler was almost 20 degrees too warm, according to the inspection report.

This is the second health inspection in which points were taken off because this cooling unit was malfunctioning. The cooler must be maintained in good working condition or it should be shut down and replaced, the Gwinnett County inspector said.

Dog Days, 6025 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross, failed the routine inspection with a 57/U, dropping from previous scores of 90/A.

In other code violations, the ice bin had black mold inside and the ice was discarded. The ice bin must be washed, rinsed and sanitized, the inspector said. It also must be maintained clean so that soil and mold do not accumulate.

Points were also taken off because raw sausages were not completely cooked through yet they were placed in a hot hold container for serving. The meats were brought back and cooked to the correct internal temperature.

Cut, ready-to-eat cabbage was stored directly on top of raw ground beef. The cabbage was thrown away.

The three-compartment sink had leaks, and one of the hand sinks also had a leak. In addition, hot water was turned off at that hand sink, and another hand sink had no soap available.

Dog Days will have a re-inspection. [Editor's Note: Dog Days passed the follow-up inspection with 99/A.]
