King Buffet on Buford Highway received a second health score in the 50s during a recent two-week span and was asked to close and correct violations.

Employees at the restaurant at 3303 Buford Highway, Atlanta, were washing their hands without soap, or not washing them at all after becoming contaminated. Two employees even washed their gloves instead of throwing them away when soiled, the DeKalb County health inspector said.

King Buffet scored 58/U on the routine inspection. About two weeks prior, the restaurant scored 53/U.

Because of the consecutive failing health scores, management was asked to close the restaurant, then meet with health officials and present a plan for improvement.

During the last inspection, King Buffet had repeat violations of food not being protected from contamination and hot foods not maintained at safe temperatures.

The inspector noted that raw shrimp and crab legs were stored over cooked chicken legs. Sweet potatoes were thrown away because they were out of temperature range without time control documentation.

Points were also taken off because disposal date markings were missing on multiple containers of prepared foods kept more than 24 hours.

King Buffet will have another inspection. [Editor's Note: King Buffet passed the follow-up inspection with 82/B.]
