Remains found in Texas could be that of a missing Atlanta musician whose truck was found in the area last month, according to a newspaper report.

Steven Marchi, 43, was last seen in August 12 when he left his DeKalb County townhouse without his guitar or cellphone. Friends of the folk musician reported him missing 10 days later.

“His roommate, Jeffrey, saw him leave around 8 p.m. Aug. 12, and he had his backpack,” Kelley Hagen, a friend who lives in Atlanta, told the AJC in August. “He said, ‘Hey Jeffrey, going out for a bit, see you later.’ Nothing out of the ordinary.”

There was little information in the case until Marchi's green Dodge Ram was found in the parking lot of Greenville, Texas, Walmart in October. But police did not connect the vehicle to Marchi until November, when friends received a letter from an impound lot.

Investigators now believe that remains found nearby belong to Marchi, the Gainesville Daily Register reported. A skull, jawbone and vertebrae have been sent to the University of North Texas for DNA analysis and positive identification, according to the report.

Personal items belonging to Marchi, including plastic bag with his driver’s license, blood donor card and passport, were found near what investigators believe was a campsite.

Surveillance cameras in the Walmart parking lot in Texas show Marchi came back to his truck to brush his teeth, the newspaper reported. But the camera's view of Marchi leaving the truck was obscured.

Foul play is not suspected.
