A 40-year-old man has been accused of killing his girlfriend in Texas and then driving to Atlanta and confessing to his estranged wife.
Michael Paul Lucking was being held without bond in the DeKalb County jail late Saturday, two days after his arrest, according to jail records. He is expected to be extradited back to Texas.
Police in Dallas said Lucking shot his girlfriend in the head during an argument and then dragged her body into a bathtub, The Dallas Morning News reported. Lucking then allegedly drove to DeKalb County, where he told his wife what he had done. Lucking's wife then called police.
Dallas police officers found Melissa Ann Affatato, 26, dead in a bathtub of the apartment, according to the report. Inside the apartment, investigators found hundreds of rounds of ammunition and several guns, including the suspected murder weapon, believed to belong to Lucking.
Investigators believe Lucking and Affatato met at an Atlanta strip club, where Affatato previously worked.
“It’s a senseless, brutal killing,” Dallas police homicide Sgt. Ray Beaudreault told the newspaper. “He met this girl and brought her to Dallas. … He ends up, because of whatever argument they had, shooting her and dragging her to the bathtub when she still had some life in her, which shows you the brutality this individual had and the anger he has inside him.”
Lucking has owned his own business, GreatAccess.com, Inc., since 2002, according to Georgia secretary of state records. Affatato previously lived in Canton, address records show.
