Police are investigating a jawbone discovered by a survey crew in northwest Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The jawbone reportedly was found along a creek off Gertrude Place NW and Hortense Place NW around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office and police are working to find out whose remains were found and how long they had been there.

"Since I've been living over here 30-plus years, they have found some bodies over there before," Marvin Berry told Channel 2. "So that's been like a common dumping ground."

Neighbors said that the body of Julie Love, a teacher killed in 1988 in a high-profile case, was found in the area.

Emmanuel Hammond was executed earlier this year for Love's murder. Maurice Porter pleaded guilty to murder and rape and was sentenced to life in prison.

Investigators said there is no indication of foul play with the remains found Wednesday.

"[The jawbone] appears to be very old, and we found it 200 yards back in the woodline in a creek bed. So it could have been washed down through the ages," Lt. Paul Guerrucci told Channel 2.
