Rejected charter supporters will go to state

A group of Smyrna parents will now go to the state to approve a charter proposal, according to Jimmy Arispe, a leader in the initiative. Cobb County's school board last week rejected a petition from the group of Smyrna parents to create Smyrna Academy of Excellence, which would serve up to 600 students in kindergarten through sixth grade in the South Cobb area. Board members raised concerns about the petitioners' financial structure.
