DeKalb County police on Thursday declined to say why they believe a 15-year-old boy fired the shot that killed 3-year-old T’Rhigi Diggs.

The toddler died on Easter while sleeping in the backseat of the car his mother was driving off Bouldercrest Road. The suspect, whose name hasn't been released because of his age, was arrested Wednesday on a murder charge.

Police have previously said the shot was likely not intended to hit the child, but Shiera Campbell, spokeswoman for the police department, said investigators want to hold off on releasing what the teen was allegedly trying to hit, if anything.

“We don't want to put anything out that may jeopardize the case,” she told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police said the shot, initially thought to be fired in a drive-by, came from a gas station as the mom drove past. The suspect is expected to be in court later this month for a preliminary hearing, which could reveal more details.

T’Rhigi’s parents were relieved after the arrest, though shocked that the alleged shooter is only 15.

“I knew they would make an arrest.  I believe in God. And I knew that it was going to come to the light,” mother Rashonda Craig told Channel 2 Action News.
