A broad area of mostly light rain was making its way from Alabama into the northwestern corner of Georgia at mid-morning Wednesday, and forecasters expected the showers to reach metro Atlanta later in the day.

The National Weather Service forecast a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening hours, but the storms are not expected to be severe.

Skies will be partly cloudy overnight, with a 20 percent chance of showers and lows in the mid-60s.

Sunny skies are forecast for Thursday and Friday, with highs in the upper 80s on Thursday and around 90 degrees on Friday, and lows in the low 60s.

Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, highs in the low 90s and lows in the mid-60s.

The chance of rain will increase to 40 percent on Sunday, the Weather Service said. Highs will be in the upper 80s, with lows in the upper 60s.
