Prosecutors: Atlanta pimp gets life in prison for sexual abuse of teen

Sept 9, 2013

An Atlanta pimp was sentenced to life in prison Monday in connection with the sexual abuse and exploitation of a 15-year-old girl, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office said.

Dwayne Shaw, 34, was convicted by a jury on charges including human trafficking, pimping, aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, statutory rape and false imprisonment.

Shaw met the teenager online before meeting her in person in November 2012 and luring her into a life of prostitution, prosecutors said. He set up appointments with clients for her at hotels, then kept all the money. He also imprisoned her at his southwest Atlanta home and raped her, authorities said.

The teen was found after four days. She sent text messages to family and friends about her ordeal, and police were able to track the messages to Shaw’s Oak Street home. She was discovered barricaded in the attic.
