If you haven’t finished your tax return yet, you’re in luck: This year, you get a brief reprieve.

Emancipation Day, marking Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, is a public holiday in the District of Columbia, so much of Washington will be shut down for its observance Friday. As a result, the usual April 15 tax filing deadline has been moved to Monday.

Despite the extra time, several U.S. Postal Service offices in metro Atlanta will stay open later than usual Monday so taxpayers can make the filing deadline. Locations and closing times are:

Midnight

»Atlanta Main Post Office, 3900 Crown Road S.W.

»Boggs Road Postal Store, 1605 Boggs Road, Duluth

9 p.m.

»Decatur Main Post Office, 520 W. Ponce de Leon Ave.

8 p.m.

»Marietta Main Post Office, 257 Lawrence St. N.W.

»Mount Bethel Post Office (East Cobb), 4455 Lower Roswell Road

Also of note: Beginning Sunday, postage for the second ounce of items mailed first class will rise to 20 cents from 17 cents, so a 2-ounce tax return will cost 64 cents to mail. A one-ounce return will still cost 44 cents.
