Investigators are trying to determine what caused a crash that killed a pregnant Cumming woman, but said she was not wearing a seatbelt.
Shayna Lynn Thom, 26, died Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle wreck, said Karleen Chalker, a spokeswoman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Her husband, Brad William Thom, was driving the couple’s 2003 Cadillac Escalade west on Hurt Bridge Road around 12:40 p.m. when he lost control, Chalker said.
The Escalade ran off the road and overturned near the intersection of Pleasant Grove Road in northwest Forsyth County.
The wife, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and trapped underneath the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Chalker said.
The husband, 33, was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released. It is unclear if he was wearing a seatbelt.
The woman was 11 weeks pregnant, Chalker said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
