The Powder Springs City Council voted 3-2 Monday to approve Pam Conner as the new city manager.
Opposed were Councilwoman Nancy Hudson and Councilman Al Thurman who both also opposed hiring a search firm for the city manager and Conner’s promotion as the interim city manager.
Hudson said, “I don’t think she’s the right person.”
Thurman, a mayoral candidate, said of Conner, “She was not my first choice.”
Also running for mayor again, Patricia Vaughn told Councilwomen Rosalyn Neal and Cheryl Sarvis and Councilman Chris Wizner, “You could not have made a better choice.”
Vaughn confirmed to the AJC that the search firm, Slavin Group and Associates, had been paid $16,207, bringing to them five finalists, including Conner.
Conner’s annual salary is $105,000 and $400 a month for a car allowance, Vaughn said.
Also, Conner holds a law degree and has served on the city’s staff for 18 years.
