A possible health risk has been identified at the Clayton County Animal Control complex in Jonesboro, police said.

Staff personnel are working with area veterinarians and other animal control facilities “to develop a plan of action to protect the health of all animals housed at the … facility,” Clayton police spokesman Eddie Soto said in an emailed statement.

Officials are looking for housing options and aggressive antibiotic therapy for the animals at the complex, he said.

“Over the next 72 hours, the Clayton County Animal Control facility will implement all suggested medical interventions, to include facility cleaning protocols, with the intent that normal operations can be resumed by weeks end,” Soto said.

No other details were immediately provided.
