Police seaching for estranged husband wanted for strangling woman

Aug 19, 2011

Henry County police are searching for a man suspected of killing his estranged wife.

Preston Marzette Young, 38, previously a person of interest, is wanted for murder, battery and cruelty to children, police Maj. Jason Bolton said Thursday.

Sharon Sylvester Young, 45, was found dead Aug. 11 at a residence in the 300 block of Master’s Club Boulevard in Hampton. Authorities disclosed Thursday that the woman had been strangled.

Police were dispatched to the scene when the victim's 3-year-old granddaughter, who was alone in a vehicle, pushed the OnStar button.

Sgt. Mike Ireland said police have not talked to Preston Young since the day of the incident.

Authorities believe Young could be in Akron, Ohio, or around the Tampa area, where he has family, friends and associates.

"Those are the two locations we are concentrating on right now," Ireland told the AJC on Friday.

Young drives a 2004 maroon Dodge Ram with Georgia tag BKG 1602, and he may be armed and dangerous, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Detective John Thacker at 770-288-8304.
