A 50-year-old woman who once kept the books for Covenant Christian Counseling Center in Snellville was arrested Tuesday for allegedly embezzling more than $75,000 from the nonprofit organization.

Police say Sheila Kitchens served as bookkeeper between late 2006 and September 2009 . When she was fired for work performance issues, the  organization discovered that she had been writing checks to herself from three different banking accounts. She then altered the records to conceal the thefts, according to Officer Linda Nixon of the Snellville Police Department.

Kitchens is being held at the Gwinnett County jail on a $100,00.00 bond
