The Clayton County victim who told police she fatally shot the man who raped her was a runaway juvenile, authorities said.

Police initially said the victim called Cobb County police on Monday to report being kidnapped from Cobb and sexually assaulted at a Clayton County home.

Actually, the victim didn't make the call, but someone calling on the girl's behalf, Cobb County 911 Communications Bureau spokeswoman Kathy Gordan said Tuesday.

"It was a mother reporting that her runaway daughter had come home," Gordon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "She said the runaway had been raped."

Cobb dispatchers forwarded the call to Clayton emergency operators, who sent officers to the home in the 5300 block of Kirk Drive, just east of Riverdale Road.

What the mother didn't tell Cobb police was that her daughter had shot and killed the alleged rapist, Gordan said.

Police found a man with multiple gunshot wounds inside the home, Clayton County Police spokesman Sgt. Otis Willis said.

"He succumbed to his injuries," Willis said.

It remained unclear what relationship, if any, the victim had with the man police said she shot. Nor did police say whose gun the woman got hold of.

Neighbors said the burgundy Cadillac parked in front of the house Monday belonged to a man they had seen for the first time Sunday evening.

Police had not yet identified the man who was killed as of Tuesday afternoon. The investigation was continuing.
