A grand jury will soon decide whether to charge a 19-year-old driver involved in the July 4th collision that killed her younger sister and critically injured three children.

Fourteen-year-old Victoria Goldware, of McDonough, was killed after she was ejected from a Ford Expedition on I-75 northbound along with a 4-year-old girl and 2-month-old twins, all of whom remained hospitalized Friday in critical condition, Henry County Police Sgt. Joey Smith said.

The 30-year-old mother of the three surviving children was treated for non-life threatening injuries, as was the 16-year-old sister of Goldware and the driver.

Smith said investigators will meet with prosecutors to present a case to a grand jury.

A combination of excessive speed and wet conditions caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle on I-75 northbound near Exit 219, police said. The SUV struck the center guardrail and swerved into traffic, colliding with a second car.

The 4-year-old sustained multiple fractures while the twins — one boy, one girl — suffered severe head injuries. Investigators said the victims did not appear to be properly restrained.

Police are not releasing the identity of the driver, who was unhurt. The occupants of the second vehicle involved in the crash also were uninjured.
