A Marietta woman has been charged with murder in connection with her mother’s death Sunday.
Evelyn Blue, 80, was being treated at WellStar Kennestone Hospital when she succumbed to severe bed sores and injuries police say were consistent with neglect.
Her daughter, Melissa Blue, was arrested Thursday after calling police to their Delk Road hotel room because of her mother’s injuries, Marietta police spokeswoman Jenny Murphy said.
Evelyn Blue was taken to the hospital early Thursday morning and Melissa Blue, 49, was questioned by police and charged with felony cruelty to the elderly aged 65 and older, and taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention center on $25,000 bond.
When Evelyn Blue died Sunday, her daughter’s charges were upgraded to felony murder, and she is now being held without bond, according to jail records.
The women had been living at the Howard Johnson at 2375 Delk Road since October, hotel management told Channel 2 Action News.
Hotel staff said Melissa Blue cleaned the room and no one from the hotel staff ever went inside before police were called last week.
After seeing the conditions, staff members called the room, “nasty.”
It is unclear why the women lived in the hotel for so long, but their last known address in Smyrna burned two years ago, according to Channel 2 Action News.
