A 12-year-old boy was killed Tuesday afternoon when a woman allegedly ran a red light and struck a van in Walton County, according to police.
Sean Thomas was a passenger in a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Jasmine Chandler, who was heading northbound on S. Madison Avenue, the City of Monroe Police Department said. Chandler, 34, allegedly ran a red light and struck a Honda Odyssey van that was driving westbound on Church Street, police said.
“The Tahoe failed to stop for (the) red traffic signal, traveling into the intersection and was struck by the van,” Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Cal Barton said. “The van continued a short distance to a final rest in the intersection facing west.”
Thomas was ejected in the crash and died at the scene, police said. The two drivers and other passengers were treated at local hospitals for minor injuries.
Charges are pending in the crash, which remains under investigation.
