881 Hemphill Avenue on the Georgia Tech campus is the site of the former Pickrick restaurant. Former Georgia Gov. Lester Maddox ran the segregated restaurant. He closed it in 1965 after being told he would have to serve blacks.

In 1967 Lester Maddox was elected governor of Georgia. State patrolmen surround him to push through the crowds the night he was elected.
