A 27-year-old man died Friday after being shot multiple times, Atlanta police said.

The shooting happened on 670 New Town Circle, near the federal penitentiary in southeast Atlanta, police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender said.

A man was detained by police at the scene and a homicide investigation is ongoing.
