Firefighters rescued eight people who were trapped in an apartment fire in DeKalb County on Tuesday night, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Five small children and three adults were on the third-floor balcony of their unit at the Kensington Manor Apartments on Mountain Drive when firefighters arrived.
Neighbor Denise Daniels, who had heard the cries for help, pointed the rescuers in the right direction immediately.
"It was so frightening, you know. I was getting emotional. I almost started crying, but I just wanted to get them help," she told Channel 2.
Battalion Chief Christopher Morrison told Channel 2 that the crew saw the family waving through the heavy smoke.
The family members were all taken to a hospital and treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries, the report said.
About 15 people were displaced from their apartments by the damage.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
