A 52-year-old man died after a vehicle hit him as he tried to cross I-20 East in DeKalb County on Wednesday.

Officers responded to a call about the pedestrian, identified by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office as James Ellis of Blyth, at 10:30 p.m., DeKalb police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell told Channel 2 Action News.

When they arrived on the scene near Panola Road, the man was in the roadway.

He was trying to cross I-20 by climbing a concrete barrier when he was hit, Campbell said.

“The driver remained on scene and the investigation is ongoing,” she said.
