The northbound lanes of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard were reopened about 9:10 a.m. Friday, four hours after Doraville police shut down the lanes to investigate a fatal pedestrian accident.

A man was hit by at least one tractor trailer and two other vehicles just north of I-285 around 5:10 a.m., according to Doraville police spokesman Gene Callaway.

Callaway told the AJC investigators have not identified the man, and are still trying to determine why he was walking along a stretch of the busy, controlled-access roadway where there are no sidewalks.

“We don’t know what he was doing out here at this time of the morning,” Callaway said.

“You’re not supposed to be walking out on Peachtree Industrial, especially in the middle of the night,” he said. "Rarely do you see people walking outside the Perimeter on Peachtree Industrial.”

Three of the drivers whose vehicles struck the man stopped and are talking to investigators. The driver of a second tractor trailer was returning to the scene after hearing news reports of the incident. That trucker told police he thought he had hit a deer, according to Callaway.

The northbound lanes of Peachtree Industrial, along with the ramp from I-285 westbound to Peachtree Industrial, were closed for about four hours while police investigated the incident.
