A Paulding County former sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on child molestation charges in Cherokee County.

Canton Police say Carl Michael Janflone, who had worked for the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office for about four years, was arrested Sept. 30.

Janflone is also charged with enticing a child familiar to him for indecent purposes, and police said additional charges were pending.

Canton police said additional charges were pending against the 53-year-old man, who was arrested at his home in Cherokee County.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, which had placed the deputy on administrative leave, has since fired him.

"Carl Janflone’s employment status with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office changed to ‘suspended with pay’ immediately following his arrest Friday evening, September 30, 2011, and he was terminated Tuesday, October 4, 2011,” spokesman Sgt. Brandon Gurley said in a statement.

The spokesman added that Paulding authorities “were in full cooperation with the Canton police to aid in their investigation.”

Police would not say who reported the alleged abuse, only that it was reported by a third party.

The investigation is continuing, Canton police said.
