The first church for the Cumberland/Galleria area - a Passion City Church campus - was approved by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

Originally planned for retail, the nearly three-acre site is on the north side of Cumberland Boulevard between Riverwood Parkway and Cobb Parkway.

John Moore, attorney for the applicant Walton Communities, said Passion City Church is heavily attended by young people.

The main structure will be a maximum of four stories of nearly 190,000 square feet with an auditorium to seat up to 3,500 people and a theater for up to 600.

Riverwood 100 and 200 parking decks will provide 2,400 parking spaces to be used on Sundays.

No daycare, preschool or private school uses will be allowed.

Passion City Church’s Atlanta campus is at 515 Garson Drive NE near the MARTA Lindbergh Station.
