The body recovered from a Rockdale County lake Tuesday is a man whose boat sank this month, officials said.

Search crews recovered the body of Troy Cobb, 46, in Randy Poynter Lake, Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokesman Maj. Stephen Adams said. A homeowner saw the body and called 911.

While the formal cause of death has not been determined, Rockdale County Coroner George Levett said “we believe it’s drowning.” An autopsy is being performed.

Cobb went missing March 11 while on a fishing trip with two other people at Black Shoals Park, officials said. After two of the boat’s batteries died, it began taking on water.

The other people in the boat were able to get ashore, but Cobb disappeared shortly after the boat sank, Channel 2 Action News reported at the time.

Cobb was not wearing a life jacket, Adams said.

Adams also said water temperatures are “still cold” this time of year. If someone goes into the water, their chances of survival are “greatly increased” by wearing a life jacket.
