Just hours after Troy Anthony Davis was put to death by lethal injection, the state Department of Corrections set an Oct. 5 execution date for a man sentenced to death for raping and murdering a woman in March 1994.

The warrant, signed Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Willie Lockette, allowed the Department of Corrections to schedule Marcus Ray Johnson's execution at 7 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the state prison in Jackson, where hundreds protested Davis' execution late Tuesday night. During a 1998 trial, Johnson was condemned to die for killing Angela Sizemore by stabbing her 41 times after they met at an Albany nightclub.
