A rookie Gwinnett County police officer was arrested by his own department Friday for allegedly electronically furnishing obscene material to minors.
David D. Lowe, 26, who graduated from the police academy May 10, resigned following his arrest when he was notified of the department's intention to fire him, police said.
Following a tip from the GBI, Gwinnett police investigated the source of an explicit video posted on www.myyearbook.com, a website designed for use by minors and grouped by age range. An unknown person had created a profile and shared the sexual video, authorities said.
The investigation took detectives to Lowe's home, and a search warrant that included access to computers was executed Friday. Lowe was arrested, charged and booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center, and his bond was set at $5,700, jail records show.
The investigation is continuing, and the former officer may face additional charges, police said.
