President Barack Obama on Friday nominated two men to be U.S. attorneys in Macon and Savannah but did not name the next U.S. attorney for Atlanta.

State Sen. Edward Tarver, an Augusta Democrat, is the president’s pick to head the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Savannah. Tarver serves on a number of legislative committees, including appropriations and special judiciary. He graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1991. Between college and law school, he served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of captain.

Obama nominated Michael Moore, a Warner Robins attorney, to head the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Macon. Moore is a former chief assistant district attorney and a former state senator. He graduated from Mercer University law school in 1993.

Obama announced Tarver’s and Moore’s nominations along with Carmen Ortiz’s nomination to be U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts.

“I nominated them for their diligence, intellect, integrity and their commitment to serving the public good,” Obama said in a statement. “They will be distinguished U.S. attorneys, and I am grateful for their willingness to serve.”

All three nominees need U.S. Senate approval.
