1. B. NCR, the technology giant that moved from Ohio to Gwinnett County six years ago, now plans to move its headquarters into the city of Atlanta. The planned move is a blow to Gwinnett — which held NCR's arrival among its most cherished economic development coups — and a boost for Atlanta, which has seen a flurry of technology companies move intown from the suburbs in the past few years.
2. C. Based on census data covering the years 2008 to 2012, the Migration Policy Institute report shows that in Georgia, Gwinnett County is home to the largest number of immigrants without legal status at 71,000, followed by DeKalb County, 42,000; Fulton County, 37,000; and Cobb County, 34,000. The report also includes Hall County, with 16,000.
Statewide, 170,000 immigrants are eligible for three-year work permits and stays of deportation under the president’s plan, placing Georgia seventh among states based on this statistic. That hews closely to Georgia’s eighth-place ranking among states for the total size of its population.
3. A. Few have enjoyed the kind of meteoric rise on the Georgia political scene as Denise Deal, the governor's daughter-in-law. In the span of five years, Deal's patronage and influence have elevated his son's wife from a virtual unknown with little fundraising experience to one of the most powerful and best-paid campaign operatives in the state, complete with a marquee client list of state Republicans. Campaign disclosures filed earlier this month show Nathan Deal paid his daughter-in-law's two companies more than $1.5 million, or roughly $100 on every $1,000 the campaign raised for his re-election.
4. D. With spring training barely a month away, the Braves' overhaul continued Wednesday when they traded slugger Evan Gattis and a minor league pitcher to the Astros for a package of three prospects. The Braves shipped their popular, power-hitting catcher/ outfielder to Houston, along with 27-year-old minor league pitcher James Hoyt, in exchange for third baseman Rio Ruiz and right handers Michael Foltynewicz and Andrew Thurman. Ruiz and Foltynewicz were among the Astros' top 10 prospects.
5. B. and C. The powerful biopic "Selma," much of which filmed in metro Atlanta, has earned Academy Awards nominations for best picture and best original song. The ballad "Glory," by John Legend and rapper-actor Common, who also portrays the Rev. James Bevel in the movie, also won a best song Golden Globe earlier this month.
