A new “spacenet” playground will be installed in Smyrna’s Chuck Camp Park by June or July.

The Smyrna City Council voted recently to pay $149,999 for the playground equipment with Community Development Block Grant funds from the federal government.

Kompan will supply the playground equipment through the U.S. Communities state contract.

Chuck Camp Park, 2270 Benson Poole Road, will be the first city park to have this style of playground.

The park is a 16-acre site that offers baseball fields, a multi-use field, a playground, a pavilion, a walking trail and concessions.

By the end of December, “aging” CDBG funds, left over by grant allocations from 2012 to 2015, will need to be spent by the city.
